Somalia Parliament has collectively approved Hassan Ali Khaire as the Somalia’s new Prime Minister , Thursday 23 February 2017 President Mohamed Abdullahi Faramaajo nominated this position.
All the 231 members present voted in support of the new Premier effectively allowing him to form the new cabinet.
Article 69 (2) of the Provisional Constitution mandates the Lower House of Parliament to debate and pass a vote on the new PM with a simple majority vote (50+1) required to approve the President’s choice.
Mr. Khayre will now proceed to select his cabinet and all eyes are on him particularly regarding the size of the cabinet and whether he will pick from parliament or opt for an exclusively technocratic cabinet.
